Dr. Hernandez was born in the Phillipines where she spent most of her childhood. She received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines, College of Dentistry in 1984. She then came to the USA to further her education, receiving a Master of Science degree as well as her Certificate of Orthodontics from the University of Minnesota in 1987. She has written numerous papers through research that have been published, mainly dealing with the study of Orthodontics. She also served as the chairperson and Program Director for the graduate program in orthodontics at the University of the Philippines College of Dentistry in Manila.

After owning her own practice in the Philippines for 20 years, Dr. Hernandez decided to move to the United States to practice orthodontics, joining the staff at Next Century Dental in 2007. Her mother was also an orthodontist for over 30 years.

 Dr. Hernandez and her husband of 21 years, Dennis, have four children ranging in age from 12 to 19. In her spare time she loves to read, take long walks, garden and travel.
